This is to be expected. Life after bariatric surgery involves a lot of changes to your diet, your activity level, and your body. Gastric Sleeve in Turkey Treatment Summary (Cost, Duration, Hospital Stay, etc..)
- What is Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
Gastric sleeve surgery is a type of bariatric surgery, also known as gastric sleeve surgery or gastric sleeve surgery. Gastric sleeve surgery removes 75-80% of the stomach to reduce the amount of food you eat and help you lose weight fast.
Gastric sleeve surgery is performed laparoscopically. Your surgeon makes a small incision in the upper abdomen and closes it. Most of the left side of the abdomen is removed. Because the remainder of the stomach looks like a narrow tube (sleeve), this surgery is called a nasogastric tube. As before surgery, food flows from the stomach into the small intestine. It is not synthesized or modified in the small intestine. After surgery, you will feel full with less food and you will start to lose weight.
With a gastric sleeve, it is possible to lose all excess weight in one year to 1.5 years.
What are the Advantages of Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy can offer benefits such as less pain, less risk of infection, faster recovery and return to daily activities, very small skin incisions, and less time in hospital.
In addition to its benefits, gastric sleeve surgery offers:
Average weight loss of 40% to 70% in a year
The gastric function is maintained due to the lack of changes to the gastric inlet and outlet valves during surgery. Since no changes are made in the small intestine, possible mild vitamin and mineral deficiencies can also be seen as an advantage of this procedure.
Who is Eligible for Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
- 1- Age between 18 and 65 years old
- 2- BMI over 40 (more than 35 for patients with serious health problems from obesity)
- 3- Psychological readiness
- 4- Patients who wish to undergo weight loss surgery but are at risk of long procedures such as gastric bypass.
- 5- People who are ready to change their life commitment to a healthy lifestyle
- 6- The most important requirement for international patients who wish to undergo weight loss surgery in Turkey is the opportunity to travel to Turkey.
How is Gastric Sleeve Surgery Performed?
To perform a full laparoscopic gastric sleeve surgery, known as “closed” surgery or LSG, general anesthesia is required in the hospital, and your surgeon will make about five small incisions in the abdomen.
The surgeon then performs the procedure using a long, thin telescope with a tiny camera on the end. An instrument passed through the incision is used to remove about 80% of the abdomen. and experienced laparoscopic surgeons can perform as many laparoscopic procedures as in open surgery.
The stomach is inflated by injecting carbon dioxide into stomach. A special tool called a trocar is then used to penetrate the inside of the abdomen. First, place the silicone tube from the mouth to the pylorus to adjust the remaining width of the stomach. It is secreted from the fatty tissue surrounding the stomach, adjacent blood vessels, and spleen. The excess hull is then cut and separated with special tools called braces. The remaining gastric volume is about 80-150 ml.
This severed part is removed from the stomach and sent to pathology. Bleeding in the excised and fixed site is then monitored. If necessary, additional metal brackets can be used or additional seams can be placed.
In addition, if necessary, certain medications can be applied to the wound to stop the bleeding. A silicone drain is then placed on the surgical area to drain the accumulated fluid. The wound is closed aesthetically, and the procedure is complete.
How Long Does Gastric Sleeve Surgery Take?
The operation is performed under general anesthesia. Gastric sleeve surgery takes an average of 1.5 hours. Since the inlet and outlet passages into the stomach are protected and continuity in the digestive system is ensured, the risk after gastric tube surgery is low and some side effects are reported to be very small. Gastric sleeve surgery is the most preferred surgical treatment method for obesity today. Like all surgeries, gastric reduction surgery can have negative consequences if it is not performed with a team of specialists, under the right conditions, and with the right technique.
What are the Possible Risks of Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
Gastric sleeve surgery also involves the overall risks associated with any surgical procedure. A team of professionals should always be with you before, during, and after surgery.
The possible specific complication of this operation is breathing problems, which can occur due to the mobilization of blood clots in the veins of the legs depending on the patient’s weight, especially the leakage of sutures and associated abscesses, and is observed in 1%. The reasons for this decline are the widespread use of the procedure, the increase in the number of testing centers and surgeons, and advances in the technology used.
Death Risk of Gastric Sleeve Surgery
The risk of this surgery in the surgical application is mostly related to the fear factor.
Especially as an overweight person, there are serious problems after surgery, even if the risk of death is the main reason for the negative outlook.
Mortality rates by general and surgical type have been reported:
- 1% in a gastric band clamp
- 15% for vertical band gastroplasty,
- 54% in gastric bypass,
- 8% for biliopancreatic anomalies,
- And the overall average is 0.25% when all types of operations are evaluated.
And according to research, the risk of appendicitis and gallbladder surgery is slightly higher in obese people than in normal people. However, this risk does not mean death. For example, the premature mortality rate is about 2 percent in cardiovascular surgery and 1000 in bariatric surgery. Before gastric tube surgery
Patients are fully educated about these risks by the doctors in the hospital who performs gastric tube surgery. Obesity surgeries are not aesthetic surgeries! Because the life expectancy of obese patients is reduced by 10-15 years due to obesity.
And the risks associated with obesity were significantly higher than the risks of gastric tube surgery. In obese people undergoing gastric sleeve surgery, the risks associated with other health problems such as liver lubrication, risk of kidney disease, sugar, or high blood pressure are eliminated.
Therefore, bariatric surgery is low risk and surgery that reduces the risk of other surgeries.
How Many Pounds Can Be Lost with Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
In general, most of the patients become very thin after gastric sleeve surgery. The rate of weight loss is about 70% of overweight. Most of the weight loss occurs in the first year, and a year later there will be more weight loss after two years, but the weight usually remains stable.
Because it is almost impossible not to lose weight with a tube after gastric surgery. Just as there are patients whose weight drops to their ideal weight, there are also patients whose weight loss is insufficient. In subsequent reports of a large patient cohort, the long-term rate of weight loss was approximately 85-90%. A small number of patients may regain weight over a period. However, the chance of returning to the old weights is 1%
Like all obesity surgeries, gastric surgery does not promise concrete value for weight reduction. Closed gastric sleeve surgery significantly reduces appetite and limits the amount of food that can be eaten during meals.
Patients who start losing weight immediately notice a positive change in their thinking. When the cycle of daily life is limited, poor nutrition and inactivity are disturbed for a short time. It becomes easier to adopt a healthier lifestyle. As a result, patients who followed a regular daily routine after surgery, including a balanced diet and physical activity, achieved better results.
How Long Do Gastric Surgery Results Last?
This process depends on the patient’s condition and diet. You will get the most effective results from the third month after surgery. But if we evaluate it for a long time, you will get perfect results within 1 year. This period is the middle period. If you don’t follow the list of diets recommended by your doctor after surgery, it will take longer to see results after surgery. You may not even get results. In conclusion: You need to wait 3 to 6 months to get the most effective results. This is a normal period, and the results of the surgery will appear gradually. Keep eating according to your diet list and don’t neglect health checks.
How is the Recovery Process After Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
Patients who have a desk job can return to work within 7-10 days after surgery. But for the patients with severe labor, restriction lasts up to 3 weeks after surgery. Anyone returning to work after day 7 should also avoid movements that put pressure on the abdominal wall.
However, discharged patients are expected to return to normal life as soon as possible. Daily activities reduce the risk of embolism. Due to the closed access, patients can quickly return to their daily lives after laparoscopic gastric reduction surgery. In closed skin surgery, a small incision of about half a centimeter is made and this incision, which is a hidden suture, is completely healed after a week.
The tapered abdominal suture heals completely in about ten days. In other words, the patient is at risk of leaking for about ten days. For this reason, strenuous activity and a solid diet are not recommended for the first ten days. If the patient undergoing surgery does not perform strenuous work using muscle strength, he can start working after a week.

However, when deciding where to go and which clinic to choose, it is not advisable to search on Google, because comments are usually manipulated by people who do not understand science. Instead, you should watch surgery videos uploaded by surgeons

At first I was very scared because it was my first surgery. Price was good, care was good. Lots of research before surgery. Very clean hospital (I think the only thing that could be improved are beds for the accompanying person). Very helpful coordinator, always advises and helps when there are doubts. She never hesitated to answer and was always loved. I rate it 5 stars.

I couldn’t recommend this company enough, I was like any other patient scared and didn’t know what to expect but soon as I got off the plane I was welcomed straight away by a vip taxi that took us to the hospital where I met the amazing Iram, she talked me through everything and explained everything I needed to know.
The hospital itself was so clean we had cleaners come in our room about 4 times a day, also they were amazing with our companion and give them meals 3 times a day. I had abit of complications after surgery where I needed 3 blood transfusions but yet again irem, the surgeon and her team made me feel so at ease and not worried. Day 4 we went to a hotel by vip transfers and the hotel was amazing. Since getting home irem messages me or could ring me anytime I need to ask a question.
Honestly, I couldn’t recommend this company enough but most of all to irem for changing my life

I flew to Antalya on the 28th April to have a gastric balloon. It was a really smooth and professional experience. I was met by a chauffeur at the airport, was taken straight to the hospital (clean, functional) and after tests and briefings by the nurse Iram and the surgeon , was taken down for the Op a few hours later. Everything went smoothly and as soon as I was cleared by the nurses I was taken by taxi to the hotel with Iram (nurse/translator/God send). The hotel was beautiful, right on the seafront with amazing views and a spotless, very modern room.
I stayed one night and flew home the next morning, again after a private taxi back to the airport was sorted by Iram.
I’ve been given a clear eating plan and after some discomfort and sickness (all normal and expected) I’m feeling better than ever. In 10 days I’ve lost 10 pound, and I’m now slowly reintroducing solids and exercise.
Highly recommend this company and the team, I really wish I’d done it years ago.
Thank you all so much x

I’m currently 2 weeks post op from a gastric sleeve and had the best experience with bridge health travel - I was helped the whole way through by Irem and really owe her so much for helping change my life! From the very start she was so helpful, supportive and caring! It was a massive reason why I picked this company as I had been whatsapping her for months and months before deciding to go ahead and I’m glad I did.
My experience during my surgery all the way to going home was also very good. The team and surgeon were very skilled and caring, checking on me throughout the day and Irem is always there for any questions or if you need anything.
The rooms were so clean and modern during my stay and it was also very comfortable. If you bring a companion, they also set up a bed next to the hospital bed and 3 meals a day for their everyday which was a very nice gesture.
So good for value! And the team really are the best. Already seeing a steady weight loss 13 days out and Irem gives you all the extra information and medications to go home with so you’re prepared when you get home!

I highly recommend this place to anyone who is wanting any work done. I genuinely couldn't explain how exceptional they were, from the very start to the very end. Super clean and friendly place, who treat you like VIP.
Every single staff member genuinely cares for you and is always making sure you are OK. I even had cleaners coming to me all the time and making sure I'm OK or if I needed anything.
Also, there was an Amazing lady called Irem who assisted me through everything, and she also kept in contact with my husband who was back home, to tell him everything was OK with me and assured him all the way whilst I was in recovery.
But honestly, me explaining my experience is nothing compared to the actual experience. I couldn't recommend them enough

I had been contemplating having a gastric sleeve for over two years before actually taking the plunge. I have struggled with my weight for half of my lifetime and I have three young children I want to see grow up.
I had followed a girl on social media who had booked through BHT. She gave me the contact info for a lady named Iram. She was very thorough when booking me in for surgery and was always there when I had questions about the procedure.
The day fast approached and I was met at the airport by a private taxi, and Iram at the hospital even with it being a late night! I was admitted straight away and bloods taken. The following morning I was taken for all my pre-op tests and everything was explained along the way. I was then booked in for surgery that afternoon, which went very well. I spent 2 more nights in the hospital and one night at a hotel before travelling back to the UK.
All the nurses were lovely, they tried their hardest to communicate and even used google translate to help. The hospital was lovely & clean, bed sheets were changed daily, and bins emptied 2/3 times a day. Was such a pleasant experience and everything went fab.
I would recommend BHT to anyone wanting surgery abroad.

Wow, what can I say? I had the best experience thanks to bridge health travel (Irem) everything was discussed before I even got a on a plane. As soon as you get to the medstar hospital Irem will be waiting for you with a smile!! You are admitted straight away and the tests begin (they don't waste any time) after my surgery I was always checked on by the nurses/my surgeon and Irem. Going abroad for surgery scared the life out of me but now that I've experienced it I would 100% recommend and go back again! I'm home now almost a week post op and I've lost 1 stone - I'm feeling fantastic!! Thank you everyone at bridge health travel for helping me be a better and healthier me

The hospital I got admitted to was extremely pleasant, very clean and spacious, the staff will look after you properly and will care for you. Everything was sorted from airport pick up, doing tests in the lab, follow-up care after surgery and everything. I am truly grateful for the work you do, hope you help a lot more people

Irem is a wonderful kind lady who will go to any length to ensure you are happy and comfortable.
I got a gastric balloon with Dr Belen and Bridge travel, and I also had dentistry work.
The whole process was awesome, I did not want to leave Antalya as we were made so welcome, if you are unsure about surgery abroad don’t be, you are in excellent hands with bridge travel!
Would definitely highly recommend

My experience with Bridge Health Travel was nothing short of exceptional. Irem was very helpful, and patient and educated me about the process during the decision making. She treated me like VIP, from the moment I said okay I’ll come. All the way to my departure she has been there every step of the way.
As a solo traveller it was reassuring because she made certain I was always comfortable. I am so happy that I chose to jumpstart my gastric sleeve journey with Bridge Health Travel and I’d most definitely recommend it to others. Sleeved2023.

What a fantastic experience.
Upon landing in Antalya we were met by a private transfer driver who drove us in comfort to the hospital (real hospital, not a small clinic). There I met Irem who welcomed myself and husband warmly and spoke excellent English. She answered all questions and was able to calm my nerves entirely. Irem was incredibly knowledgable - with her own nursing experience - so we knew I was in good hands.
In 2 hours of arriving at the (very clean) hospital, I had received a multitude of physical health tests using high-tech equipment - these tests would have taken place over months in the UK so I was impressed!
The facilities were clean, tidy and the staff extremely friendly. Our private en-suite rooms were cleaned regularly, with fresh towels and blankets every day, if not more often. My husband who travelled with me was offered 3 meals per day from the hospital.
I met the surgeon - who performs bariatric surgery solely - who was very friendly and encouraged questions. He explained, with the help of Irem, what was going to happen and how long I would be in surgery etc.
On the day I was taken to surgery, everything went perfectly well. I was monitored by the loveliest nurses very regularly to ensure my post-op condition was good. Nothing was too much trouble, they are so efficient and all procedures were done absolutely as you would see in the UK (just quicker).
I had a 1-2-1 conversation with a dietician who explained my wasting journey post-surgery I’m great detail. I was given a giant bag of vitamins, protein powders, literature regarding my surgery - what to expect etc and a comprehensive copy of my medical notes.
I was taken by private transfer to the hotel, which was lovely in a fabulous location. Myself and husband were very comfortable throughout.
I would recommend this company wholeheartedly. I think there is always the worry about “going abroad” for surgery, but I was so impressed by the efficiency, cleanliness, friendliness and knowledge of the team throughout.
I believe you get more than what you pay for and I am very excited to start my new weight loss journey post-surgery.
I am now home with no residual pain, just getting used to my new diet and tiny tummy.
Thanks all! Really appreciate you x

What an amazing experience with the most kind, caring and professional team. When me and my son landing in Antalya we were met by a private transfer driver who gave us an ice-cold bottle of water and drove us in comfort to the hospital.
On arrival I met Irem who welcomed me and my son, Irem spoke excellent English. She answered all questions, Irem is extremely knowledgeable in her field of work and with her own nursing experience, I knew I was just fine.
The first day of arriving at the hospital, I had received all the test of physical health tests using high-tech equipment - these tests were all completed the same day one after another with excellent coordination. The facilities were clean, tidy and the staff extremely friendly, they all took the time to get to know you as a Person, I was never seen or never felt like I was just another one of their patients. The room was spacious and the private en-suite room was cleaned regularly 3-4 times a day, with fresh towels and blankets every day, a bed was provided for my son (who stated is was comfortable) he was also offered 3 meals per day from the hospital. But being a fussy eater Irem took the time out of her day/night to arrange a food delivery to be brought to the hotel for my son, some nights this could be around 8-9 0clock when Irem had already done a full days work! But nothing was to much of an effort for Irem, she didn’t only look after me amazingly she also looked after my 17yr old son.
I met the surgeon Dr Belen who was very friendly and encouraged questions. He would then explain all questions and fully explained the full procedure with the help of Irem. Dr Belen is extremely knowledgeable and extremely professional, after meeting him I immediately know I was in good hands.
The next day I was taken down for surgery, everything went perfectly well no complications. I was monitored by the most amazing, caring, professional nurses, my son only being 17yrs old got a little frighted whilst I was in recovery, he messaged Irem and Irem rang him and talked him through everything that was happening on the machines (bleeping) was all normal, Irem contacted the nurses on duty and arrange for them to spend a bit of time with my son for reassurance Nothing was too much trouble for them.
A couple of days later I had a 1-2-1 with the dietician who explained all information to me in great depth. my wasting journey post-surgery I’m great detail. I was given a bag of aftercare materials, these included vitamins, protein powders, literature regarding my surgery and full copy of my medical notes along with a DVD of the surgery.
Being in the medical profession myself and going through this experience. I would highly recommend this company. If you are looking for kind, caring, professional, dignified care then don’t hesitate you have found the right team with Irem and her team. there is always the worry about “going abroad” for surgery, I had them worries and doubt myself, but if there is one thing I can say is you really don’t need to worry, I spent so much time leading to the operation worrying when I didn’t need to. I am 10 days post-op, and couldn’t be happier than I am right now, iv had no complications at all, drinking fine, I’m currently on the thicker fluid stage so made homemade soups they are going down just fine. I haven’t had any pain relief since leaving the hospital, not because I wasn’t supples them , I was but I haven’t needed them.
